The COBALT8X by MODAL Electronics is an 8-voice polyphonic virtual-analog synthesizer with 64 oscillators (8 per voice), a morphable 4-pole ladder filter and a tonal palette that stretches from classic analog sounds to previously unheard soundscapes . If desired, the well-known and popular waveforms from legendary analog synthesizers can be modulated by 40 different algorithms such as crossmodulation, PWM, morphing, bit crushing, etc., and thus transform them into completely new sounds. The sounds produced in this way can be played particularly expressively via its 61 velocity-sensitive keys with aftertouch. Provided a corresponding, optional controller, the COBALT8X also supports MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) for even more expressive performances. The resonant multimode filter offers four different characteristics to choose from and, in the proven MODAL tradition, can be continuously morphed back and forth between different modes. On the modulation side, the COBALT8X offers three envelopes (amp, mod and filter) and 3 LFOs (2 x polyphonic, 1 x global), which can be managed together with all other modulation sources in 8 freely assignable slots and another 4 preset slots. The sounds generated in this way can be animated with 64 steps or 512 notes using the programmable arpeggiator or the polyphonic sequencer. To round off the sounds perfectly, there is also an extensive effects section, in which up to 3 high-quality effects can be used simultaneously. The free MODALapp, which is available for PC, Mac, iOS and Android as well as in the plug-in formats VST3 and AU, enables the convenient editing and management of the sounds on the screen.
