String Instruments

String instruments or plucked instruments refer to all other instruments which are stretched with several strings between two points and these are plucked or drawn by hand, such as the ukulele, banjo and mandolin.
Ukuleles
The ukulele is a guitar-like 4-string plucked instrument with a small size. In contrast to the guitar, the fourth (top) string is often octave and therefore tuned higher than the middle strings. This gives the ukulele its unmistakable, exotic sound. There are different models and moods. The classic ukulele, the soprano ukulele, is the smallest. Others are the concert, tenor and baritone ukuleles, which are getting bigger and have a deeper sound. There is the C-tuning (g'-c'-e'-a 'Hawaiian tuning) and D-tuning (a'-d'-fis'-h' classic tuning). A relatively new form is the bass ukulele. Strictly speaking, it is not a ukulele but a miniaturized electric or acoustic bass.
Banjos
The banjo is a plucked instrument. A round plywood frame, which is covered with a membrane made of fur or plastic, serves as the resonance body. The membrane can be tensioned using a metal ring and tensioning screws. The banjo has a long fretted neck and four to eight strings. It has its domain in bluegrass, Irish folk or jazz. The individual sound and the special groove are fun.
Mandolines
The mandolin is a well-known plucked instrument from the family of lute instruments. There is the classic mandolin also called round mandolin. This has a flat, kinked top and a bowl-shaped body. There is also the flat mandolin. This has a frame and a flat or slightly curved top and bottom.
