Die neue Harmonielehre Band 1behandelt das grundlegende musikalische Fachwissen von Anfang an. Das Buch ist dabei in zwei große Teile gegliedert. Die Notenschrift wird in Teil 1 (Das tonale System) in gründlicher und leicht verständlicher Form ebenso behandelt wie die Obertonreihe und die verschiedenen Intervalle und Dreiklänge. Der zweite ausführlichere Teil umfasst in neun Kapiteln Die Elemente der Harmonielehre: Der Umgang mit den Akkordsymbolen wird Schritt für Schritt erklärt, wobei die einzelnen Akkorde auch miteinander in Beziehung gesetzt werden. Darüber hinaus werden auch Quinten- und Quartenzirkel, die Akkord-Skalen-Systeme der Durtonleiter und von Harmonisch und Melodisch Moll sowie pentatonische Tonleitern, symmetrische Skalen und Bluestonleitern behandelt. Zahlreiche Abbildungen und Beispiele, Übungen und Lösungen, Kommentare und Analysen in jedem einzelnen Kapitel tragen entscheidend zum besseren Verständnis der musikalischen Grundlagen bei.
