Kawai is a Japanese company headquartered in Hamamatsu that manufactures grand pianos, upright pianos, digital pianos and a professional recording system specially designed for piano recording.
Today, awai manufactures grand pianos, upright pianos and digital pianos, as well as a professional PR-1 recording device specially developed for piano recordings. In addition to the GE, GM and RX wing series, the EX series is particularly well known. The largest type, the EX grand piano, is 276 cm long. A mute option, the Anytime system, is offered on some models. These instruments carry the suffix ATX. The flagship of the Kawai grand piano series is Shigeru Kawai, named after the son of the company's founder. These grand pianos are handcrafted in limited numbers each year and only sold in a few licensed stores. After the instrument has been set up and initially adjusted, a Shigeru buyer is then visited by a Japanese master technician, who adapts and intones the grand piano to the acoustic conditions at the location. This service is included with the purchase of a Shigeru Kawai.
Kawai's best digital pianos feature real wood keyboards and piano soundboards. According to Kawai, it comes as close as possible to an acoustic piano with its NV 5 digital piano to be able to reproduce the vibration of the piano strings, which is essential for recreating the sound of an acoustic piano.
