Boundary Microphones
The boundary layer microphone is a plate on which a microphone capsule is embedded. The directional characteristic is therefore hemispherical. This design was developed to take advantage of the advantageous acoustic properties that occur on sound-reflecting surfaces without impairing the sound field itself. If the boundary layer microphone is placed on the floor, i.e. on a large sound-reflecting surface, it receives the maximum sound pressure with reduced room sound components, which leads to an acoustically good room impression.
