The Selmer Company was founded in Paris in the early 20th century and manufactured musical instruments. Selmer was known for high-quality woodwind instruments, especially saxophones and clarinets. Selmer Industries, the parent company of the Selmer Company, acquired Steinway Musical Properties, the parent company of piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons, in 1995 and changed its name to Steinway Musical Instruments. In 2003, Steinway merged the Selmer Company with another subsidiary, brass instrument manufacturer C.G. Conn, to Conn-Selmer, Inc.
